Fit As A Cookie snacks are not health food. They are normal snacks made from healthier ingredients. Why make such a big deal about your snacks being made without eggs?

We believe eggs are highly nutritious. But too much of a good thing may not be beneficial either. We tend to consume too many eggs already in our daily diet especially if we eat outside food on a regular basis. Most food especially pastries will contain eggs. Fit as a Cookie snacks are made without eggs so that we do not contribute to your daily egg intake. What is Low GI sugar and 0 calories sugar?

GI is short for  glycaemic index, a measure of the impact of a carbohydrate food on blood glucose. The GI uses a scale from 1 to a 100 to rank foods based on how quickly and how much they raise blood glucose after eating. Glucose or white bread, being the reference food, is given a maximum GI of 100. This means that a low GI sugar is a sugar that will not raise your blood glucose as high as a normal sugar. Persistent rise in blood glucose levels have been identified as a cause for most metabolic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

0 calories sugar is also popularly known as keto sugar. Since there is 0 carbs, proteins and fats, there are no calories. We use a combination of monk fruit sugar and Erythritol for our 0 calories sugar.

What is prebiotic?

Prebiotics are fibers that the human body cannot digest. They serve as food for probiotics, which are tiny living microorganisms, including bacteria and yeast. Prebiotics and probiotics both support the body in building and maintaining a healthy colony of bacteria and other microorganisms, which supports the gut and aids digestion.

These food components help promote beneficial bacteria by providing food and creating an environment where microorganisms can flourish.

Prebiotics are present in fiber-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. That is why we try to maintain a high fiber count for our snacks.

What is a Net Calorie?

Fibers are not digestible and not used by the body. Since fiber is not digested, it doesn’t contribute to our calories intake, unlike sugars and simple starch. However, a gross calorie includes calories from fiber because in a lab, when a food is burnt to calculate its calories, the fiber gets burnt too. Fortunately, fiber acts differently in the human body since it is not digested and therefore contributes 0 calories. This is important because a food item can be lower in ingested calories if the food item has more fiber. Compare a cookie that is made of plain flour versus one that is made from wholemeal flour. In the laboratory, both may show the same calories when burnt, but in real life, the cookie made from wholemeal flour will contribute lesser calories to your diet, as you will not be digesting the fiber.

Net Calories =  Gross Calories (Starch+Sugar+Fiber) – Calories from Fiber
or
Net Calories = Calories from simple starch + Calories from Sugars
